STATUS: March 21, 2017
Thank you to more than 250 donors who joined with us to conserve the final piece of the Temescal Creek and Eagle Peak Ranch. Also thank you to the more than 100 donors who responded to the 21 acre conservation effort for South Rim!
We are in the process of creating a new web page for Eagle Peak Ranch which will include a thank all the donors who contributed to the 4 acquisitions which make this new 454 acre conservation area. The Ranch will be managed as part of our larger Eagle Peak Preserve.
We now will refocus on new opportunities to advance our efforts to conserve the South Rim of the Upper San Diego River.
Currently several undeveloped parcels are being explored for conservation. We are in the process of contacting owners about potential land donations, charity sales or fair-market purchases. One owner has expressed interest in potentially selling his land. A key piece in our conservation strategy of this area. We anticipate needing $12,000 for a deposit and associated costs so we can enter into negotiations. He has already indicated he is open to a long purchase period which will give us sufficient time to seeks grants and other funding sources for the balance of the purchase price.
But, the first step is to raise the $12,000.

The property is located off Eagle Peak Road near Julian and Pine Hills.

More than a decade ago, we identified the importance of conserving open space along and near to Eagle Peak Road. Since then we have completed the acquisition of more than 20 parcels! There are many additional parcels which if developed would put the important Upper San Diego River Gorge ecosystem and associated tributaries in jeopardy. Many of these lots are very small (less than 2 acres). Creating access roads to them across private and public lands would cause great concern and threaten the scenic and biological integrity of the region.
Thank you for if you have already are part of this vital effort to Protect the Source of the River and open the outdoors for people to enjoy. We also need to raise an additional $3000 as one of our larger anticipated donations for a recent acquisition was lower than anticipated. If you are interested in helping, please let us know.

- South Rim Acquisitions in the Eagle Peak Conservation Area
Working to conserve the South Rim of the Upper San Diego River Gorge, a key ecosystem and visual treasure.
Final Property on El Cajon Mountain
After years of work, just one privately owned property remains within our El Cajon Moutain Conservation area. We have set a goal of raising $25,000 to purchase the property if it becomes available. Since we don't know if and when we will come to agreement with the owner, we also seek pledges or other expressions of interest in supporting this purchase if we can come to terms.
- Boulder Creek Conservation in the Eagle Peak Conservation Area
Did you know there are wild rainbow trout in San Diego County? You can help us protect a cold-water stream where the trout have lived year-round. In 2013 we completed our second acquisition in this project area. We are currently working to re-plant along the Creek which has been devestated by wildfires. As part of this effort, we have received a grant from the State of California and are working to raise funds to support this grant.
