One River With Many Stories
![]() |
This is an exciting new project of the San Diego River Park Foundation. In it we will be capturing the stories of people touched by the River. Initiation of this project has been made possible through the generous support of the California Council for the Humanities which has awarded SDRPF with a $5000 California Stories Fund grant. The Union Bank of California Foundation has provided a grant to continue this effort. We need your help with this project! Please help us match this award with a donation today! |

Checking the San Diego Flume The project will establish a program to record the personal histories of people who have been touched by the River in their lifetime. This will be done through recorded interviews, written memories, and photographs. We will also collect and archive items you may have such as newspaper clippings, personal photos, postcards, and even phonebooks. We especially want to focus on the period before 1960, but all inquiries are welcomed. Please help us raise $5000 toward this project! Donations of $5, $10, $25, $100, $500 or more are needed!!! Donations can be mailed to the San Diego River Park Foundation; PO Box 80126, San Diego, CA 92138 Make checks payable to the " The San Diego River Park Foundation" and note that it is for "Many Stories." We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, donations are tax-deductible. Our first steps are to create an interpretive display recording various stories and histories that we have collected already. These will be displayed in a series of panels on our web site. Stories such as the history of the flume which brought water to San Diego, the floods of 1916, the dairy farms in Mission Valley and that favorite corn stand which "had the sweetest corn in town," Wonderland in Ocean Beach, and much more. These will be used as a backdrop to the oral histories we will be collecting of San Diegans speaking about the River and sharing their favorite memories. We are learning a great deal about the history of the past 100 years or so from people we have spoken to already. In the future we will be putting these stories together to create "One River with Many Stories." |
