One River With Many Stories
The San Diego River has many stories waiting to be told.
If you have a story, we would love to hear from you. We are also looking for opportunities to record your story so that it can become part of our future San Diego River Heritage Museum.
We started this project as part of a California Council for the Humanities California Stories Fund grant with the additional support of The Union Bank of California Foundation.
Checking the San Diego Flume
This project is a program to record the personal histories of people who have been touched by the River in their lifetime. Through recorded interviews, written memories, and photographs, we hope the River's story can be captured for future generations. We are collecting items such as newspaper clippings, personal photos, postcards, and even phonebooks. We especially want to focus on the period before 1960, but all inquiries are welcomed.
We are learning a great deal about the history of the past 100 years or so from people we have spoken to already. In the future we will be put these stories together to create "One River with Many Stories."
These are samples of postcards which we have already discovered depicting the River. If you are interested in helping on this project, please contact us.
Thanks for your support.
