The Vision of a River Park
The guiding vision for the River Park is presented in the San Diego River Park Conceptual Plan which was developed through a series of community meetings by The San Diego River Park Foundation. The plan was completed during the summer of 2002

CURRENT STATUS:
January 2011
The City of San Diego is working on completing a Master Plan for the River Park within its jurisdiction. The draft plan was completed some time ago and the City is now working on completing an environmental review of the plan. As part of this, the City Council of San Diego will at some time in the future consider formally adopting the plan. Visit the City's web site for details
The San Diego River Park Foundation is in the final stages of developing a program to enlist architects, planners, artist and others in advancing the vision of the River Park through the donation of their time and skills and to help create projects that volunteers can undertake to make areas along the river safe, inviting, and educational. The program is being modeled on other programs across the country and even London, England! Let's put San Diegans to the task to create a River Park For All from the Mountains to the Ocean! City of Santee is completing a new section of the San Diego River Trail! This is in the area known as Mast Park West. It is a fantastic addition to the River Park. Congratulations Santee!

Rob Hutsel, Chair of the San Diego River Coalition, presented its work plan to the San Diego River Conservancy. The Conservancy is an agency of the State of California who is working with the River Park Foundation, public agencies and community groups to advance the vision of the San Diego River Park. A recent report by The San Diego Foundation and The City Project documented park deficient communities in San Diego County, several areas along the San Diego River are well below standards.
