Cindy has been volunteering as a bat advocate for 24 years and will share her knowledge of our native insectivorous bats. View a quick demo on bat anatomy and learn about safety around wild mammals. Learn how you can help protect local bat populations. AND come and meet a LIVE bat ambassador up close. After our presentation we will stroll along the river\, eavesdropping on the bats we see using our bioacoustics to identify them based on their calls. As the night concludes we will view the moths that have been attracted to our UV light station for up-close observation with Hector Valtierra. An avid moth enthusiast\, when Hector isn’t out looking for moths and other insects\, he works as a microbiology and general biology professor at San Diego community colleges. He is a Certified Interpretive Guide and presents multimedia programs on bats and mountain lions at parks throughout San Diego County. Don volunteers with the San Diego Natural History Museum and Project Wildlife’s Bat Team\, contributes bat echolocation recordings for research\, and co-authored 50 Best Short Hikes San Diego (Wilderness Press\, 2018).
