Setting Out to Conserve a Major Wildlife Corrridor in the Boulder Creek Area West of Lake Cuyamaca

Background:

Stretching from Boulder Creek Road to Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, there is a large area that is privately owned and largely undeveloped. It has become an important area for wildlife as they move north-south on the west slopes of the Cuyamacas. We have called this the Cuyamaca Corridor.

First Effort: Lillian Hill
An amazing acqusition success! 100s of people came together to raise the funds needed to acquire several properties along Boulder Creek Road, adjacent to the Eagle Peak and Three Sisters Falls Trailhead. Clean up efforts are underway for this incredible property. Hikes and volunteer opportunities are regularly scheduled.

Second Project: Johnson Creek

Thanks to a quick response for our conservation community, the funds were raised to acquire this small but important property. The owner has run into some personal issues and completing the acquisition has been delayed.

What is Next?

We are monitoring the status of three large properties.. Since they are large pieces, we will work with the County of San Diego and other partners to pursue their conservation. The current owners have taken wonderful care of these properties so we only need to act if that changes. It is likely we will need not only significant donations, but also potentially grants and financing if we do need to act.
