INTERNSHIPS

San Diego River Park Foundation internships are educational, fun, and great resume-builders. Interns have the opportunity to see how an environmental nonprofit organization operates on a day-to-day basis as well as to participate hands-on in real-world projects that affect change in their communities.

Unpaid internships are available across many of our programs. The opportunities are a mix of office and field work. School credit is available, if offered by your learning institution.

 

Internship application periods vary depending on position availability. Inquiries are accepted all year round. Community Outreach Intern: Do you like working with people? Become a community outreach intern to help engage community members in our work to create a better future for the San Diego River. For a complete intern description, click here.

 

Ecological Restoration and Monitoring Intern: A great opportunity to see habitat restoration science in action! Assist with research, riparian and upland ecological restoration, and species monitoring at our preserves. For a complete intern description, click here.


Education and Outreach Intern: You can help connect students with nature and create the next generation of River Stewards. Responsibilities include leading youth K–12 in education programs, working with teachers, and participating at community outreach events. For a complete intern description, click here.

 

Graphic Design Intern: Help tell the story of the San Diego River Park Foundation by designing and laying out graphic communication pieces such as brochures, flyers, mailed invitations, newsletters, signage, and more. Habitat Restoration Field Intern: Interested in the relationships between human beings and our natural environment? The Urban Restoration Field Intern works within our Clean River program to quantify trash along the River, plan removal activities, and work with volunteers to clear trash. Field Intern: The Invasive Management, Plant Assessment, and Conservation Team: Assist wilth a special invasive plant removal project in Mission Valley. This is a great opportunity to see environmental habitat work in action. For a complete intern description, click here.

 

Riparian Data Mapping Field Intern: This is a great position for interns interested in citizen science and leveraging digital tools for collecting and sharing data. Interns will work in the field to gather data using a special mapping app. For a complete intern description, click here.

 

Riparian Field Survey and Park Assessment Intern: Work with volunteers to collect valuable data on River habitat health. This is a great opportunity to get outdoors and hike along our urban River as well as to learn about environmental data management and analysis. For a complete intern description, click here.

 

RiverWatch Water Quality Program Intern: The RiverWatch intern will maintain water quality equipment and databases as well as attend monthly monitoring outings. The collected information helps us to form, and publically share, a complete picture of the health of the San Diego River. For a complete intern description, click here.

 

Special Event Intern: Interns will assist with the development of a community-focused special event to celebrate our San Diego River and raise local awareness about SDRPF activities. Tasks include event planning, promotion, and coordination. For a complete intern description, click here.

 

Special Projects Internships: The San Diego River Park Foundation often has special project opportunities for interns looking to contribute to something new and exciting along our River.
