Are you in a Halloween mood?
Join us for a fun evening Halloween adventure to learn about the San Diego watershed’s many bat species and their habitats with Francisco Basso!  Francisco is a wildlife and conservation biologist that specializes in bilingual science communication, art, and accessibility to science across San Diego and Baja California. His work focuses on bringing attention to the underrepresented and commonly feared native wildlife that is often understudied and under appreciated.

After our presentation we will stroll along the river, eavesdropping on the bats we see using our bioacoustics to identify them based on their calls.

As the night concludes we will view the moths that have been attracted to our UV light station for up-close observation with Hector Valtierra. An avid moth enthusiast, when Hector isn’t out looking for moths and other insects, he works as a microbiology and general biology professor at San Diego community colleges. He is also an avid iNaturalist user and wildlife photographer.

All ages are welcome! Be sure to sign up early—space is limited, and our Nature Nights events fill up quickly.
Please bring a flashlight or headlamp, a camp chair for the mothing portion, and wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.

THIS SPECIAL HALLOWEEN EVENT HAS A REGISTRATION FEE OF $20. Your ticket purchase will support The San Diego River Park Foundation’s work to conduct research and help conserve bats in the San Diego River watershed.
