Nature Nights: Bat Walk and Moths 9/12/26
Join us for a fun evening adventure to learn about the San Diego watershed’s many bat species and their habitats with Dan Taylor. A bat researcher and scientist with Bat Conservation International Dan has more than 30 years of experience working on a wide range of wildlife and conservation issues in the U.S., Central America, and Africa. Dan has been with Bat Conservation Iternational for over 23 years and currently specializes in habitat protection and restoration. After our presentation we will stroll along the river, eavesdropping on the bats we see using our bioacoustics to identify them based on their calls. As the night concludes we will view the moths that have been attracted to our UV light station for up-close observation with Hector Valtierra. An avid moth enthusiast, when Hector isn’t out looking for moths and other insects, he works as a microbiology and general biology professor at San Diego community colleges. He is also an avid iNaturalist user and wildlife photographer.
All ages are welcome! Be sure to sign up early—space is limited, and our Nature Nights events fill up quickly.
Please bring a flashlight or headlamp, a camp chair for the mothing portion, and wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.
