South Rim
An incredible Area Lining the Upper San Diego River Gorge
Surrounded by Proposed Wilderness in the Cleveland National Forest, it is vital that this land be conserved before it is lost.
While this area appears to be part of the National Forest it is in fact privately owned. It is a mosaic of small and larger parcels with different owners. Many have been in families for generations. Now some are starting to be available for purchase.
UPDATE: Conservation supporters rally together to raise the funds needed to buy 6 properties totalling nearly 10 acres! Great job!

A critical home for wildlife and native plants
Large mammals such as bobcats, cougars, deer, foxes and badger can be found here amongst the flowering plants of the coastal sage scrub habitat. Engelmann oaks, considered the rarest oak in the US, are found here. Native milkweed and monarch butterflies dot the landscape as well as native grasslands and other important ecosystems.

Location
The South Rim is located along the Upper San Diego River near Eagle Peak Road and Julian / Pine Hills. View the area on Google Maps.
In the map you can see some of the many land parcels. We recently acquired the ones in orange and red. You can see how we are working to connect SDRPF (yellow) and National Forest lands (green). The lands without a color overlay remain privately owned.
Over time we have been able to acquire and conserve dozens of properties in the South Rim area. We will continue to reach out to many private landowners building relationships so that if they decide to sell we can act quickly.
